Ex Ilva: from 28/3 Cigs for 3 thousand (2500 in Taranto)

Ukraine, Tajani:

(ANSA) – TARANTO, 01 MAR – Acciaierie d’Italia has communicated to the trade unions the need to resort to the extraordinary redundancy fund (Cigs) for the duration of 12 months, starting from 28 March, for a total of 3 thousand workers at all sites of the group, of which 2500 in Taranto. The document announces the restructuring and investment plan and the running gear which will initially envisage a production of 15 thousand tons of steel per day compared to the approximately 20 thousand tons per day that can be produced with an ordinary production structure.

These levels of production, we read in the document signed by the Chief of Staff Arturo Ferrucci, “put the cost-revenue ratio of the entire production cycle managed by Acciaierie d’Italia in perspective in structural imbalance”. This, it is noted, “will inevitably lead to a reduction in the number of staff present, as well as having to manage temporary inactivity of the same, resulting from temporary stops, partial or even total, of all the plants of the various sites downstream of the Taranto hot production cycle. “. For the Taranto production unit, the company explains, the plan provides for the “refurbishment and start-up of Blast Furnace 5, investments for the construction of a new electric furnace, technical investments and quality improvement, environmental adaptation and upgrade of existing plants”. The other 500 workers to be placed in Cigs in the other sites are divided as follows: 15 in Racconigi, 10 in Legnaro, 150 in Novi Ligure, 30 in Marghera, 250 in Genoa, 40 in Milan, 5 in Paderno. The company explains that “only the completion of the planned corporate reorganization, which is expected to end in 2025, and therefore the achievement of production volumes of approximately 8 million tons per year will allow for the full use of resources”.
