(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 11 – After the sharp decrease in 2020 induced by the effects of the pandemic (-724 thousand employed, -3.1% compared to 2019), on average 2021 employment returns to grow by 169 thousand units ( + 0.8% compared to 2020). Istat notes this, underlining that the employment rate stands at an annual average of 58.2%, an increase of 0.8 points and the unemployment rate rises to 9.5% (+0.2 points in one year). The growth in employment concerned only temporary employees (+280 thousand, + 10.7%).
In the fourth quarter of 2021 there were 80 thousand more employees (+ 0.4%) compared to the previous quarter and 571 thousand more in the fourth quarter of 2020 (+ 2.6%). Employees in the period amounted to 22 million 791 thousand while the employment rate was 59.1%. Labor input, measured by hours worked, grew by 0.2% on the previous quarter and by 6.2% on the year.
The unemployment rate in the fourth quarter was 9.1%, stable on the previous quarter and down by 0.7 points on the same period of 2020. The unemployed in the period amounted to 2 million 277 thousand, down 0.3% on the quarter previous and 5.4% on the same period of 2020,. (HANDLE).
