(ANSA) – TRIESTE, MARCH 18 – The “Paolo Thaon di Revel” Multipurpose Offshore Patrol (PPA), the first of seven units, was delivered this morning to the Muggiano (La Spezia) plant.
The PPAs are built in the Integrated Shipyard of Riva Trigoso and Muggiano, with deliveries scheduled until 2026, and are part of the renewal plan of the operational lines of the naval units of the Navy, decided by the Government and the Parliament and launched in May 2015 under the aegis of OCCAR (Organization for Joint Cooperation in Arms Matters).
This type of patrol vessel is a highly flexible type of ship capable of carrying out patrols, sea rescue, Civil Protection operations, as well as a front-line combat ship, according to different configurations: self-defense or maximum defense capacity. In addition, the unit can also use fast boats such as RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) up to 11 meters. The PPA is 143 meters long and can reach a speed of 32 knots with 135 crew and accommodation capacity up to 181 beds. (HANDLE).
