Fs: after the covid crisis returns to profit, at 193 million

(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 30 – Return to profit for the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane group which closed 2021 with a positive net result of 193 million euros, after the heavy effects on the results for the year 2020 (-562 million euros) due to the pandemic. This was announced by Fs after the Board’s approval of the consolidated financial statements of the group, as at 31 December 2021. Compared to the 2020 financial year, operating revenues rose to 12.2 billion, with an overall increase of 1.3 billion euros (+ 12.2%). Gross Operating Margin (EBITDA) grew by 255 million euros, reaching 1.9 billion euros against 1.6 billion in 2020 (+ 15.6%). Finally, EBIT stood at a positive value of 193 million euros (with the EBIT Margin going from -2.6% to + 1.6%). FS also shows a strong increase in technical investments for 2021, to 12.5 billion euros (+ 40% on 2020), of which 98% on the national territory and over 10 billion euros in rail and road infrastructures. Financial advances of € 2.6 billion (vs approximately 1 billion in 2020) to the country’s production chains. The net financial position amounted to € 8.9 billion, in line with 2020. Operating costs for the year amounted to € 10.3 billion.
