(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 31 – The CEO of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, met today the president of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, to discuss Eni’s activities in the country and the common areas interest and collaboration. This was announced by a note from the energy group.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla. In particular, during the meeting the issue of natural gas production and the export of LNG was addressed, areas in which Egypt has acquired a central role in the Mediterranean since Eni’s discovery of Zohr.

The parties shared Egypt’s vision of becoming a regional gas hub, leveraging existing LNG facilities. Eni currently produces around 80% of the gas destined for the domestic market for the generation of electricity. The company, explains the note, is committed to supporting local production through an ambitious exploration and development campaign, which will also contribute to exports through the Damietta liquefaction plant, successfully restarted in 2021, helping to return to Egypt the role of net LNG exporter.
