Since March 1, in some regions of Ukraine, a ban on the sale of alcohol has been introduced. A month later, the situation has changed somewhat.

The editorial staff of Segodnya looked into in which areas the responsibility for violating the “dry law” during the war was increased, and where the bans were lifted.

Lviv region

In Lviv and settlements of the Lviv community from March 1 banned the sale of alcohol generally during martial law. Later, the Lviv Regional Military Administration imposed a restriction on the sale of alcoholic beverages. from 21:00 to 10:00therefore, the final decision on a complete ban remains with the territorial communities.

After lengthy disputes, on April 2, Lviv increased liability for non-compliance and drinking alcohol in public places. Violators are going to attract to community service. If law enforcement officers catch the driver in a state of intoxication, the vehicle plan to remove for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In the same time from 12:00 to 20:00 beer producers were allowed to sell their products if they were made by fermentation without the addition of ethyl alcohol. Drinking alcohol on the terraces is still prohibited.

Kyiv and region

Since April 1, alcoholic drinks have been partially allowed in shops and restaurants in the capital. Trade in such goods was allowed to carry out from 11:00 to 16:00. A complete ban has been in effect in Kyiv since March 1.

Sumy region

Since February 27, a ban on the sale of alcohol has been introduced in the Sumy region. However, at the end of March, the rules were somewhat relaxed and allowed sell liquor on weekends. Restrictions will remain in effect until the end of martial law, and commanders of military units must ensure that fighters do not abuse alcoholic beverages.

Cherkasy

The mayor of Cherkassy Anatoly Bondarenko assured the residents that the city will not impose a ban for the sale of alcohol. According to him, only the Cherkasy OVA can make the appropriate decision, but the restriction will not change the situation. Earlier, the mayor said that the city budget receives a lot of money from the sale of wine, beer and vodka products – approximately 2.6 million hryvnias.

Poltava region

From April 2, it was allowed to sell strong drinks in the Poltava region. The relief will apply from 12:00 to 18:00, in accordance with the decision of the Defense Council of the region. Thus, we intend to support the local economy. However, alcohol will not be sold to the military and law enforcement.

Odessa region

The head of the Odessa OVA, Maxim Marchenko, signed an order that from April 1 was allowed to sell wine, beer, liquor, champagne and port wine in the region. Shops and food establishments may sell such products from 9:00 to 15:00. Stronger drinks are still banned. It is strictly forbidden to sell alcohol to the military and law enforcement officers. If the level of crime in the region increases, then the relief will be canceled again.

Vinnytsia region

“Dry law” in the Vinnitsa region lasted until March 22, while the head of the local OVA, Sergei Borzov, did not allow the sale of low-alcohol drinks. During the state of war, the residents of Vinnitsa were stressed that for drunk driving they can pick up the car for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and territorial defense.

At the same time, from March 29, by a separate order in the Vinnytsia region, it was forbidden to sell alcohol to the military, the National Guard, members of the territorial defense and other military formations, and persons with weapons.

The effect of alcohol on the body

The Center for Public Health supported the initiative of the regions to ban the sale of alcohol. Ukrainians were reminded that alcohol negatively affects the functioning of the nervous system, slows down brain activity and encourages aggressive actions and violence.

Alcohol reduces the ability to quickly and adequately respond to events and make informed decisions. At the same time, it contributes to accidents and injuries. The quality of sleep under the influence of alcohol also deteriorates, which can result in excessive anxiety, stress and depression. Alcoholic drinks can easily be poisoned.

“Replace alcohol with meditation or good quality sleep – it will be more effective and help save life if an emergency occurs”– noted in the CSO.

Earlier we said that in big cities the prices for illegal strong alcohol have increased several times. It is sold in villages and cities in the west of Ukraine. The highest price tags are in Lviv, where budget alcohol costs like in a restaurant.
