(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, APRIL 12 – A system of floating plastic-catching barriers to make the Emilia-Romagna rivers purer. A pilot project kicks off from Ferrara to test a new method of cleaning waterways: the barriers that will facilitate selective waste collection – explains the Region – have been installed on the Po di Volano, near the Darsena City, and valley of the San Giorgio bridge, in the city center.

Floating waste will be intercepted by a device consisting of floating polyethylene barriers, which does not interfere with the fauna and flora of the river: floating plastic and other waste transported by water are collected through a vessel equipped with a basket, and then placed in special bags and transferred to the delivery sites.

“The experimentation that will last a year and is financed with 200,000 euros – observes the regional councilor for the Environment, Irene Priolo – is part of the strategy to reduce disposable plastics, the backbone of the new regional plan for the management of waste. All this through an innovative and sustainable intervention method, capable of acting at 360 degrees for the protection and protection of the environment “.

Alongside the project, which is headed by the Regional Agency for Territorial Security and Civil Protection, in the space of a few weeks a further cleaning of the embankments and banks of various waterways is ready to start, again in the Ferrara area. : with a cost of 100,000 euros, the aim is to remove and clear away all kinds of waste abandoned from bulky, plastic or ferrous materials, vehicle components, tires and asbestos.
