Banks: Padoan, banking union in the middle of the ford, make the leap

(ANSA) – MILAN, APRIL 12 – Banks must make the leap towards the European Banking Union, which is still incomplete, abandoning nationalist logic. This is what the president of Unicredit, Pier Carlo Padoan, said during the Global banking forum 2022. “Following the sovereign debt crisis, the banking union was launched in Europe, which is still halfway across the river” and this involves “a fragmentation at the European level”, adds Padoan. “Even if everyone in Europe is in favor of more integration, because we know that it is the strategy to move forward – says the president of Unicredit – we are resisting this integration process. There is perpetuation of a phenomenon that is moving along national bases instead of making a qualitative leap along European bases “. According to Padoan, “if we do not take this leap decisively, leaving national nostalgia behind us, Europe, which is already behind the United States, risks increasing this delay” (ANSA).
