Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, about 22,000 Ukrainian couples have got married. The number of people wishing to marry has increased, and now the Ministry of Justice is making it easier for Ukrainians to formalize their relationship as quickly as necessary.

Valeria Kolomiets, Deputy Minister of Justice for European Integration, spoke about the changes on Ukrainian radio.

You can get married in a day and remotely

Hence, during the day, anyone can get married in any registry office in the territory where there are no hostilities.

In addition, during martial law, not only employees of the registry office were allowed to register marriages, but powers were also granted to other persons.

There is an additional simplification in that you can register a marriage with the absence of one of the couple. However, this is not allowed for all Ukrainians, but for those who serve, are somewhere far away and want to marry their soulmate.

An application for such a desire can be submitted by both the military and the police, as well as persons who, due to military service, could end up in the hospital.

How to get married remotely

So, first the couple must submit an application, then it is sealed by the commander. And then there can be several ways.

1. The application is sent to the registry office in the territory where the bride or groom is located. Then one of them can come to this body and carry out the procedure.

2. The commander has the right to draw up an act of marriage registration himself, and only then submit this act to the registry office, which will register it. With this procedure, a person can connect online or both the groom and the bride can connect via Zoom.
