(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 20 – There are 30 thousand small businesses in Italy in the commerce and public businesses today at a high risk of usury and other criminal events. A number that “with a good degree of confidence is between 26 thousand and 44 thousand production units”. The data emerges from Confcommercio’s analysis of usury and illegal phenomena in which it is estimated that in 2021 the illegality “cost” Italian businesses almost 31 billion euros. The direct losses in turnover due to events such as commercial and restaurant illegal abuse, counterfeiting or shoplifting suffered by the regular sector during the last year were estimated at 22 billion euros. These are associated with the higher charges for defensive expenses, others in excess of a situation of absence of crime and the costs of cybercrime, computer scams, which are growing strongly (crimes for which, moreover, a systematic underestimation continues). According to Confcommercio’s calculations, the overall annual loss of turnover in the affected sectors is 6.3% of the added value, 4.7 billion less, and puts almost 200,000 regular jobs at risk.
