(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 21 – Sogin, the state-owned company that deals with the dismantling of nuclear power plants and the management and safety of radioactive waste, “is committed to accelerating the activities that will allow this year to exceed the 45% threshold in nuclear decommissioning activities “. The company notes this in the aftermath of the Government’s response, during the question time in the Chamber, referring to what was said by the Minister for Relations with Parliament, Federico D’Incà, regarding the 2020-2025 Business Plan launched by the current Governance corporate.
In particular, Sogin in a note confirms “the goal of achieving an activity volume of over 900 million euros over the plan period. The peak is in the two-year period 2022-2023 with the start of, among other things, the dismantling of the reactors of the Garigliano and Trino plants, which represent the most complex works from an engineering and operational point of view in the decommissioning of a nuclear plant. ‘core’ of the reactor of the Garigliano plant, that is, of all the activated metal components, called internals, present in the vessel which is the structure in which the nuclear reaction took place during operation “.
In recalling that “over 90% of the materials subject to decommissioning have been and will be destined to be recovered”, Sogin adds that “the strategic objectives of the 2020-2025 Business Plan also involve a change in the organizational model that allows for a net improvement in performance in the core business and favors the generation of value for the country system, also thanks to innovative and sustainable solutions for the management of radioactive waste based on the principles of the circular economy. Of course, a lot of work remains to be done, but Sogin is finally able to achieve goals that it has set itself in the medium and long term for the benefit of the safety, environment and economy of our country “, concludes the note.
