It violates the fundamental principles of peace, international security and undermines the world economic order”. Thus the president of the ECB, Christine Lagarde, in a note to the 45th meeting of the IMF. “The Governing Council of the ECB expresses its full support for the Ukrainian people”, she stressed, explaining that the war will have a “material impact on economic activity and inflation, not only in Europe but also globally”. In the short term, “inflationary risks are oriented to the upside” and “inflation will rise if the prices of energy and other commodities rise again and if there are new bottlenecks in supply”, explained the president of the ECB. underlining that “our monetary policy will depend on new incoming data and our evolving assessments of the outlook” and assuring that “all necessary measures will be taken to fulfill the ECB’s mandate to pursue price stability”.
