Ukrainians whose cash was damaged in the fire can apply to the National Bank of Ukraine. There, these banknotes will be checked and people will be compensated for the damage.

The press service of the NBU told where exactly in this case you need to apply, and how much you can count on.

What to do if money is damaged

In this situation, you should contact one of the regional departments of monetary circulation of the National Bank. These divisions today operate in four areas:

  • Dnepropetrovsk;
  • Odessa;
  • Khmelnitsky;
  • Lvovskaya.

Ukrainians are advised to first call one of the necessary units to find out the exact information about whether a particular institution is open on a particular day. Contact information is available on the NBU website.

Together with damaged banknotes in subsection you need to submit the following documents:

  • certificate of fire, catastrophe, occurrence of another situation (if any);
  • or indicate in the application the situation as a result of which the banknotes are damaged.

At the same time, the NBU warns that you can not independently violate the integrity of banknotes, if damage to two or more banknotes has led to their gluing (sintering).

If in your region there is no division of monetary circulation of the National Bank, then you can contact one of the authorized banks:

  • Oschadbank;
  • PrivatBank;
  • Raiffeisen Bank;
  • FUIB.

“Authorized banks do not examine significantly damaged banknotes, but pack them with maximum integrity and transfer them as doubtful for examination to the National Bank of Ukraine along with the bearer’s statement, a certificate of withdrawal (acceptance) of banknotes for examination and a certificate of fire, catastrophe, occurrence of another situations (if any),” the press service said in a statement.

How much can be reimbursed

Ukrainians are reimbursed clearly the amount of banknotes of the national currency, on which payment signs were lost as a result of a fire. The audit is carried out by NBU specialists. If signs of counterfeiting were found on the banknotes, then no refund will occur.

Where and how to exchange foreign banknotes

Previously, “Today” was told what to do with damaged banknotes of euros, dollars, zlotys and other foreign currencies.

Significantly worn banknotes are sent by the National Bank to a foreign bank and receive a refund for them. Accordingly, the client who brought the damaged cash to the bank, can get money for it immediately, but within the time period set by the bank. Although some financial institutions can make the settlement immediately.

If a banknote raises doubts about its authenticity, it may send for research to the National Bank. The examination is carried out free of charge. To receive a refund for damaged currency, you need fill out an application.

Counterfeit banknotes withdrawn from circulation without reimbursement of their cost and in the prescribed manner are transferred to law enforcement agencies for investigation.
