Ukrainians began to work more: unemployment decreased in the country

There are fewer unemployed Ukrainians in Ukraine. According to official statistics, 1.6 million citizens were left without work.

This was reported by the press service of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

According to the State Statistics Service, in the second quarter of this year, the number of working Ukrainians in the 15-70 age category amounted to 15.8 million people. And the number of unemployed was 1.6 million people.

Note that the number of unemployed has become less than in the first quarter of 2021. Then 1.8 million people were unemployed. Thus, over the past few months, almost 200 thousand. Ukrainians are employed. In April-June there was a decrease in the unemployment rate to 9.3%, and in the first quarter the figure was over 10%.

Among the unemployed there are 873.9 thousand women and 932.1 thousand men. Most of them live in Ukrainian cities – 1,179.7 thousand Ukrainians, and 626.3 thousand people live in rural areas.

At the same time, the employment rate of the population aged 15 and over was 49.7%, and if judging by age groups, among the population aged 15-70 it was 56.2%.

Calculations according to the ILO method

The calculation methodology of the International Labor Organization takes into account the percentage of unemployed among the economically active population (15-72 years), and not only those who are registered at the employment center. That is, according to this method, there are more unemployed people.

The site “Segodnya” learned from experts how the unemployment rate will change in the third quarter according to the ILO method. The figures are somewhat different, but the trend is the same – unemployment will decline.

“The unemployment rate is expected to be 9.2-9.4%. Its decline will be facilitated by an increase in employment in the corporate sector amid economic recovery and an increase in offers on the seasonal employment market,” says the head of the Council of Entrepreneurs under the Cabinet of Ministers Andrei Zablovsky.
