(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 30 – “At work for peace”: CGIL, CISL and UIL are preparing to celebrate May 1st in Assisi, in Piazza San Francesco, where this year the national demonstration is held with the general secretaries Maurizio Landini, Luigi Sbarra and Pierpaolo Bombardieri.
“We are against war and we want to send a message to stop this absurd war wanted by Putin which is making people pay a heavy price. The world of work wants to work to rebuild peace”, Landini said on the eve of May 1st. A day to re-launch the message for “decent and not precarious” work, which “we must guarantee everyone: one cannot be poor while working”, adds the CGIL leader, remarking that “there is a wage issue: the time has come to put more money in the pockets of workers and retirees, starting with the lowest incomes “.
Peace and work are “the central themes of our May Day that it is not by chance that we celebrate in Assisi, the city that more than any other embodies the spirit of brotherhood, reconciliation, solidarity between peoples and generations, of struggle to inequalities. Peace, social justice and work are the foundations of a free and democratic community, founded on respect for the person and for life “, underlines Sbarra. The number one of the CISL relaunches the need for “a great pact between the government and the social partners to put economic growth and jobs back at the center, and to support wages and pensions cut down by inflation”.
“Tomorrow we will be in Assisi to ask for peace and work to get out of the crisis. Unfortunately, however, it is not a day of celebration, but of denunciation and reflection in which to remember that there is a problem of job insecurity”, Bombardieri underlines. And in this regard, the leader of the UIL repeats the path followed in Spain where “fixed-term contracts have, in fact, been eliminated, limiting them only to a few specific cases”. Safety in the workplace is one of the themes at the center of the event: “We must focus, first of all, on prevention and training”. (HANDLE).
