Environment: shipowners sign the Trieste-Monfalcone Blue Agreement

(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 11 MAY – The “Trieste & Monfalcone Blue Agreement” becomes operational, the agreement to reduce atmospheric emissions produced by cruise and Ro-Ro ships that visit the two ports. After an initial agreement by the Port System Authorities, Port Authorities and Shipping Agents, today the shipowners have signed: Costa Cruises, Msc, Dfds and Ulusoy.

The document provides that, voluntarily, ships approaching ports, moorings, and departing, use a low-sulfur fuel, reducing emissions on the urban fabric of cities. The initiative has the support of all the local institutions.

For Zeno D’Agostino, president of the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, “the adhesion of the companies is a proof of how the protagonists of our community share a vision in which the environment is an absolute priority”.

Beniamino Maltese, Executive Vice President and CFO Costa Group underlined that Trieste has an increasing importance in Costa Cruises strategies: in 2022 we expect to make about 40 stopovers “.

The mayor of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazza, recalled that the city is first in terms of quality of life in Italy, and that therefore “it is necessary to invest in concrete actions for an increasingly sustainable city”. (HANDLE).
