Summer: for holidays, an average cost of € 1,080 and you go further afield

(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 16 – The desire for vacation wins over everything: the propensity to travel index returns to the same levels of the pre-pandemic period at 67 points (on a scale from 0 to 100) and 23 million Italians between 18 and 74 are planning to leave during the summer. It emerges from the Confturismo-Confcommercio Observatory in the survey at the end of April.

“After two years of profound crisis, tourism is returning to pre-Covid levels. The prospects for the summer are positive even if war, inflation and expensive energy are still of great concern. For this reason, the new support measures are also fundamental for tourism businesses, which is the sector from which our entire economic system can really restart “, says the president of Confcommercio, Carlo Sangalli.

However, the scenario remains characterized by a certain “volatility”.

In fact, of these 23 million, only 4 out of 10 have already booked a trip, while for the rest, for now, only the intention remains, which will probably result in late booking, if not even “last minute”. On the one hand, therefore, we are witnessing a real new style of holiday in the name of freedom of choice and to change your mind, on the other hand, there is a signal of strong caution on the part of the demand, also because 6 Italians out of 10 say they are concerned about the consequences of inflation and expensive energy.

The sea, followed by the mountains and the cultural experience, in cities and places of art that include small villages will be the most popular destinations.

The “range of travel” is also increasing, which usually indicates a greater propensity to spend: 85% of Italians will choose national destinations, in 6 cases out of 10 outside their own region, while the remaining 15% plan a trip abroad which, for more than two thirds, will be in Europe.

For the main holiday, that of 7 days or more at their destination, the interviewees declare that they will spend an average of 1,080 euros, which is reduced to just over 600 euros for shorter breaks, from 3 to 7 days. (HANDLE).
