(ANSA) – MILAN, MAY 24 – The Saipem Flat Fish submarine drone will be used in Brazil for the inspection of Shell and Petrobras fields. This was announced by the San Donato Milanese group which has been awarded the contract for two pilot projects for the inspection of as many fields in ultra-deep waters, respectively managed by the two energy companies. Projects that – it is explained in a note – “constitute a pilot and are part of the research and development program of Anp, the Brazilian national agency for oil, natural gas and biofuels”. The goal is to qualify the drone to perform unmanned and unmanned inspections, supporting the monitoring and maintenance campaigns of underwater infrastructures “.
To conduct the operations, Saipem implemented the FlatFish drone through the industrialization phase with the final aim of enabling operations in deep water, at a depth of over 2,000 meters, enhancing its characteristics based on artificial intelligence and its navigation capabilities and monitoring. Leading the activities that will last 12 months will be Sonsub, Saipem’s “center of excellence” for underwater technologies and robotics. A first phase involves the intermediate tests of the drone in shallow waters, which will be carried out at the Saipem base in Trieste with the support of the engineering department of Sonsub in Brazil. The second phase, on the other hand, is that of using the drone in Brazilian waters in the third quarter of 2022. (ANSA).
