The Russian economy is starting to fall apart – imports to the Russian Federation have decreased by almost 50%. This means that the Russians were actually left without resources, technologies and goods from abroad.

About it writes the publication Insider.

“The economy is collapsing. We predict a 30% collapse in GDP by the end of 2022”Robin Brooks, chief trade economist at the Institute of International Finance, says.

According to the expert, data collected with the help of IIF researcher Jonathan Pingle shows that exports from 20 countries to Russia fell by 50% in April compared to the same period in 2021. But the Kremlin continues to trade in oil and gas, its main sources of income, so monthly exports from Russia to other countries in April increased by 64% compared to the same period last year.

Robin Brooks noted that the country’s current account surplus was “huge,” meaning Russia was exporting more than it was importing.

Import is very important for the existence of Russia

Russian economist and sociologist Vladislav Inozemtsev earlier in an interview with Natasha Vlashchenko on the Ukraine 24 YouTube channel noted that it is imports that are critically important for the Russian economy.

“I believe in a complete cessation of imports of anything to Russia. Russia is critically dependent on critical imports”– he said.

According to the expert, this concerns the pharmaceutical, agricultural and food markets, as well as the market for medical equipment, electronic gadgets, devices for receiving mobile signals, office equipment, computer systems, and components for transport. All this is imported to Russia by more than 95%.

The fact is that Russia is not engaged in the production of vaccines for farm animals at all. They are completely imported, and all broiler eggs are European, as are sugar beet seeds.

Earlier, we already said that in Russia, due to Western sanctions, there was a shortage of components for cars, so the Russian Federation is negotiating partnerships with Chinese automakers. Also, “Today” wrote when the Russians finally feel the effect of the sanctions.
