The Verkhovna Rada has registered a number of bills, according to which they plan to increase the punishment for traffic violations.

These are the draft laws:

  1. №7354 concerns establishing a new procedure for liability for violation training, retraining and advanced training of vehicle drivers, violation of the procedure for state accreditation of schools, certification of specialists and the procedure for issuing or issuing rights.
  2. No. 7026-1 suggests increase in fines for systematic violations of traffic rules: from 3 to 5 offenses – twice, from 5 to 10 – five times, more than 10 times – deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for up to 2 years. By a systematic offense is meant the commission of 3 or more such unlawful acts during the year.
  3. №6502 called improve the calculation of penalty points, namely, to introduce a system for accruing penalty points for traffic violations that are not recorded in automatic mode, which entails a temporary suspension of a driver’s license until the second course is completed and a theoretical and practical exam on knowledge of the rules is passed.

Thus, according to Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport and Infrastructure, People’s Deputy Volodymyr Kreydenko, the war in Ukraine does not relieve our citizens of responsibility and compliance with traffic rules.

Despite this, according to him, during the hostilities in the Kyiv region there were many violations of traffic rules, auto-fixation cameras did not work, the police provided security from the invaders. All this contributed to an increase in the number of accidents.

Driver’s license will be issued in a new way

On May 24, a resolution concerning the mechanism for the training and retraining of drivers in Ukraine came into force.

In general, driver candidates will need to take five steps to obtain a license:

  • attend a theoretical course at a driving school and receive a certificate valid for 1 year;
  • pass a theoretical exam at the service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;
  • undergo practical training in a driving school;
  • pass an exam at a driving school and receive a certificate valid for 2 years;
  • pass a practical exam at the service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and obtain a driver’s license.

In addition, from July, Ukrainian drivers will be able to receive paid license plates for all types of vehicles.
