For one of the only bridges of the year, tourism professionals expect to fill up, whether in the restaurant or hotel sectors, for the Ascension weekend. These different sectors are breaking records for the season, with French people favoring destinations close to home.

The Ascension Bridge was particularly expected, as May 1 and 8 fell on a Sunday. It is one of the only bridges of the year, and this is why tourism professionals have received a record number of reservations, in the catering and hotel sectors. The preferred destination of the French for these four days of rest is essentially the seaside. “Reservations are even higher than they were in 2019, since they are up by almost 20%”, specifies Xavier Rousselou, spokesperson for the HomeAway platform.

Refueling in French campsites

The Gites de France make the same observation, with a record year for this Ascension weekend. A reservation rate of 88%, four points more than last year and seven more than in 2019. The average basket is around 300 to 500 euros for four nights.

This trend can also be seen among camping professionals who are full of cards this weekend. “We see an occupancy rate of 95% in French campsites”, underlines Jérôme Mercier, general manager of Campings.com. “It’s a very good performance, with 50% more reservations compared to 2021”, he continues on Europe 1. The French favor destinations fairly close to home, two to three hours away on average in train or by car.
