Ita has adopted a “disciplinary measure that led to the immediate dismissal of the resource from the staff” at the conclusion of an internal investigation on flight AZ609 of 30 April from New York JFK to Rome Fiumicino. This is what is read in an Ita note after an investigation to verify “the events relating to the momentary loss of radio communication between the cockpit and the offices set up for air traffic control, in particular during the overflight of French airspace” . Lack of communications, according to what was anticipated by the newspaper Repubblica, due to hypotheses still to be clarified and among which there would be that of a sleepiness of the pilots.

This investigation, the airline stresses, “led to the identification of a behavior not compliant with the procedures in force by the Captain both during the flight and once landed, or a professional conduct inconsistent with the behavioral and working rules dictated by the Company that the personnel are required to follow rigorously, and above all in strong inconsistencies between the statements made by the Commander and the outcome of internal investigations “.
