The borrowing requirement for the first five months of the current year is approximately 35,700 million, an improvement of approximately 33,300 million compared to that recorded in the corresponding period of 2021 (69,028 million).
The Mef communicates it. In May 2022 alone, the balance of the state sector closed, provisionally, with a requirement of 11,700 million, with an improvement of approximately 3,600 million compared to the corresponding value of May 2021, which closed with a requirement of 15,252. millions.
In May, in comparison with the corresponding month of 2021, the improvement in the balance is largely due to the positive trend in tax collections linked to the increase in VAT payments, contributions and other indirect taxes which more than offset the drop in excise duties on mineral oils. The positive result was partially mitigated by the increase in payments to which the higher withdrawals of the Social Security Institutions for the disbursement of the Single and Universal Check and the higher transfers to the Community budget which last year had concentrated in June contributed.
The interest expenditure on government bonds is in line with the value of the same month of the previous year.
