Since June 1, regional gas companies in 15 regions of Ukraine have lost the opportunity to work, so another company will supply blue fuel to Ukrainians instead.

As the press service of Notogaz Ukrainy reported, since June they have become the supplier of last resort for 8.8 million Ukrainian households.

The changes apply to customers of gas supply companies in the following areas:

  • Vinnitsa;
  • Volynsky;
  • Dnepropetrovsk;
  • Zhytomyr;
  • Transcarpathian;
  • Zaporozhye;
  • Ivano-Frankivsk;
  • Kievskaya;
  • Lvovskaya;
  • Nikolaevskaya;
  • Rivne;
  • Sumy;
  • Kharkov;
  • Khmelnitsky;
  • Chernigov.

In the near future, Ukrainians who used the services of local regional gas companies will be transferred to standard contracts with Naftogaz. The price of blue fuel for them will be 7.96 UAH/cubic meters. m with VAT.

It should be noted that the gas supplier of last resort (LOS) is appointed for consumers if they are left without service as a result of bankruptcy, termination of the license in the company, etc. Since 2015, the role of the “last hope” for Ukrainians has been played by the Neftegaz company.

What happened to the regional gas companies?

At the end of May, the Cabinet of Ministers instructed to transfer the previously arrested assets of gas distribution system operators to the management of Chernomorneftegaz. Thus, emergencies were prevented.

Earlier, the Kyiv Pechersk Court transferred corporate rights to 26 regional and city GDS operators to the National Agency of Ukraine for the Detection, Search and Management of Assets Obtained from Corruption and Other Crimes (ARMA).

This was explained by the fact that in June 2021, employees of the State Bureau of Investigation exposed a large-scale scheme in which the Ministry of Energy donated gas distribution systems for use by private operators. The state budget suffered losses of UAH 1.4 billion.

At the same time, Naftogaz intends to open a national network of gas stations where fuel will be sold at lower prices. The government has also set a preferential gas price for water suppliers.
