The increase in prices unleashed by the war in Ukraine will cost Italian families over 8.1 billion euros in 2022 for food spending alone, due to the effect of inflation which mainly affects the weakest categories. This is what emerges from Coldiretti’s analysis on the effects of price increases in the shopping cart, based on Istat data on Italian consumption and inflation trends in the first five months of the year.
Leading the ranking of price increases is the vegetables which this year will cost Italian families 1.95 billion more overall, Coldiretti underlines, and precedes on the podium bread, pasta and ricewith an increase of 1.48 billion, e meat and salamifor which expenditure is estimated by 1.35 billion higher than in 2021.
In fourth place the fruitwith 0.84 billion, precedes the fish (0.7 billion), milk, cheese and eggs (0.63 billion) e oil, butter and fat (0.52 billion) which, however, is the category that in the first five months of 2022 saw prices run the most. (HANDLE).
