(ANSA) – ROME, JUNE 13 – Tourism in Lazio starts again but the presence of foreigners continues to show weak. According to the Bank of Italy report on regional economies, last year the flows of Italian tourists showed a “good recovery” (+ 25.1%), but as regards foreigners, attendance is still decreasing (- 29.7%). Furthermore, in 2021, the Lazio economy grew by 6.3%, in line with the national GDP (+ 6.6%). However, the “robust recovery” remains 3 percentage points lower than the pre-covid levels during which 8.4 points of GDP were lost. All sectors are in progress, with the most intense growth for construction, with tax incentives and the recovery of the real estate market. For the future, on the other hand, the picture is one of “uncertainty”: the rise in the price of energy and raw materials which has sharpened with the war in Ukraine weighs heavily.

Returning to tourism, in the two months of March-April 2022 there was a strong growth in presences. However, the Bank of Italy report warns that the levels are still far from that of 2019, of 38% for Italians and 66% for foreigners.

In particular, in 2021, arrivals in the hotels of the Metropolitan City of Rome, which make up about 9 tenths of the regional total, grew by 12.1% after the sharp decline of the previous year, attendance was essentially stationary.

Also last year, spending at current prices by foreign visitors in Lazio increased by about 10%, after the sharp decline of the previous year. (HANDLE).
