Will cars disappear? Why and what kind of transport Ukrainians are massively switching to

The gasoline crisis has been going on in Ukraine for several months now. Fuel prices have risen significantly, and at some gas stations you can’t even find petrol or autogas. Against the backdrop of such changes in Ukraine, the demand for alternative modes of transport has increased.

OLX analysts told Segodnya what Ukrainians are buying right now.

Demand for “green” modes of transport has increased several times

Ukravtoprom statistics show that in May 2022, Ukraine registered almost 67% more electric vehicles, than in the same month of 2021.

This is evidenced by the statistics of demand for this type of transport, which was received by analysts. According to the data, in May this year, the demand for “green” modes of transport in Ukraine increased as follows:

• on the electric vehicles increased demand by 7 times;
• on the electric scooters and hoverboards the activity of buyers has tripled;
• to purchase electric scooters demand increased by 4.7 times.

“In accordance with demand, supply has also increased. So, if at the end of April, sellers offered 226 electric cars and 114 hybrids, then in May the number of such ads increased by almost 3.6 and 4.7 times, respectively,” – the message says.

Regarding which brands people choose, the information is as follows: most of the responses to the ad were on “green” brand Opel (for one electric car there are almost 11 potential buyers). Also leaders are Renault and Nissan.

“According to the May indicators, the “boom” for alternative electric transport (motorcycles, scooters and scooters) occurred in the penultimate week of May (from 23.05 to 29.05), and most of all they were interested in offers in the Kiev region, Odessa region and Lviv region”, experts explained.

Most people in the “Moto” category were interested in buying electric scooters and gyroscooters. There is a great demand, in particular, in the Kyiv region.

Also Kyiv region is a leader in demand for electric scooters. But most of those who want to buy an electric motorcycle are in the Odessa region.

Customs clearance of electric cars will become easier

Earlier, Segodnya was told that the Cabinet of Ministers proposes to exempt cars with electric motors, including hybrid ones, from taxation.

According to Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, the relevant bill has already been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.
