All acquitted in the Etruria trial, including Boschi senior

All acquitted because the fact does not exist even in the latest line of investigation for the bankruptcy of the former Banca Etruria, the one on the so-called ‘gold consultants’. And among the 14 defendants, even Pierluigi Boschi, at the time vice president of the bank and father of the former minister now president of the deputies of Italia Viva, Maria Elena Boschi, breathes a sigh of relief.
The first instance sentence in court in Arezzo, judge Ada Grignani, sweeps away the accusation of ‘culpable bankruptcy’ and the doubts that have hovered over the defendants for years, Boschi senior first. “I cried like a child, in the office, in the Chamber”, writes Maria Elena on Fb after reading the sentence. “I swore I would never cry for Banca Etruria. Today I did. And I’m not afraid to admit it in public. I cried because my father was acquitted of the latest accusation against Banca Etruria.” With today, adds the former minister, “a seven-year ordeal is coming to an end in the only possible way: with the certainty that my father was innocent”. Words followed by those of Matteo Renzi: now the “hateful talk show opponents should line up and say one thing: sorry. They won’t. But what is becoming increasingly clear is that we weren’t the monsters”. From Iv there is a barrage of requests for an apology – Ettore Rosato and Luciano Nobili also ask her -, from the Democratic Party Senator Andrea Marcucci remarks ‘Many must be ashamed’. And from Florence the mayor Dario Nardella speaks of “restored truth”.
“I hope this is the last case against Pierluigi Boschi. The fact of bearing that name weighed on my client but luckily there is a happy ending,” said his defender Gildo Ursini. The acquittal sentence unleashes the lawyers. The lawyer Luca Fanfani, defender of the Deputy Director General Emanuele Cuccaro, states: “14 defendants, two boards of directors, a general manager and a deputy CEO of Banca Etruria once again on trial for bankruptcy. And again all acquitted! from the Cartabia delegation, starting from the possibility of holding trials only on condition that there is a ‘reasonable forecast of conviction’, help to avoid largely useless trials like this in the future “.
The prosecutor had asked for sentences ranging from 8 months to 1 year. In addition to Boschi senior, the acquitted are Luciano Nataloni, Claudia Bugno, Luigi Nannipieri, Daniele Cabiati, Carlo Catanossi, Emanuele Cuccaro, Alessandro Benocci, Claudia Bonollo, Anna Nocentini Lapini, Giovanni Grazzini, Alessandro Liberatori, Ilaria Tosti, Claudio Salini. “We await the reasons, then we will evaluate the appeal” was limited to comment the prosecutor of Arezzo Roberto Rossi. The defenses claimed that the accused had actually acted in accordance with Bank of Italy provisions.
The supervisory body had asked Etruria to evaluate the hypothesis of a merger with an institution of high standing, namely the Banca Popolare di Vicenza, then the operation was not completed.
Today’s ruling is in line with the one pronounced on 1 October 2021 by the court of Arezzo on the mother investigation for fraudulent bankruptcy against other former managers and advisors of the former Etruria which ended with 23 acquitted out of 24 defendants.
