Due to the full-scale war with Russia in Ukraine, inflation has somewhat accelerated and food prices have risen. However, the cost of the consumer basket in the unrecognized terrorist organization of the LPR in the territory of the temporarily occupied Lugansk region is 40% higher than the Ukrainian price level.

Serhiy Gaidai, the head of the Luhansk regional military administration, announced such data.

The price difference is very noticeable.

According to monitoring data from open sources, consumer prices for products in the so-called LPR are 40% higher than in Ukraine. And this, as Gaidai wrote, refutes the myths about the “sweet life” in the “People’s Republic”.

“Average consumer prices for food in May 2022 in the territorial communities of the Luhansk region, which are under temporary occupation due to Russia’s armed aggression, are significantly higher than in the territory of Ukraine controlled by the Government,” – the Department of Economic Development and Foreign Economic Activity of the Luhansk Regional State Administration said in a statement.

Consequently, prices in the unrecognized republic are higher by as much:

  • potato – by 45.44%;
  • sunflower oil – by 44.95%;
  • onion – by 44.47%;
  • chicken eggs – by 42.79%;
  • carrot – by 39.99%;
  • bird (chicken carcass) – by 39.36%;
  • pork – by 31.99%;
  • beet – by 29.14%;
  • pasta – by 22.34%.

  • onion: 18.61 UAH/kg – 19.02 UAH/kg;
  • beets: 21.34 UAH/kg – 23.15 UAH/kg;

  • potatoes: 10.23 UAH/kg – 9.64 UAH/kg.
