“After September, based on our current assessment, we expect a gradual but sustained path of further interest rate hikes to be appropriate.” This was stated by the president of the ECB, Christine Lagarde, in a hearing in the Economic Commission of the European Parliament.
“In line with our commitment to our MTO of 2%, the pace at which we adjust our monetary policy will depend on the incoming data and how we assess inflation over the medium term,” he stressed.
“The extent of the rate hike – he explained – will depend on the updated medium-term inflation outlook. If medium-term inflation outlook persists or worsens, a greater increase will be appropriate in our September meeting”.
