Despite the height of the sweet cherry season, Ukrainian gardeners are forced to reduce prices for their products.

According to analysts from the specialized EastFruit project, stone fruits are sold cheaper than in the summer of 2021, and there are several reasons for this.

Firstly, the supply of cherries on the Ukrainian market turned out to be significantly higher than the producers expected. Competition creates a price fall.

Secondly, the quality of the products does not always satisfy the buyers, which also affects the cost of cherries. Large enterprises sell fruits in the range of 25-45 UAH per kilogram: the price fell by 30% in a week.

The war also caused problems for the farmers. Most cherries are grown in Zaporozhye and Mykolaiv regions, which have suffered significantly from the actions of Russian invaders. Local farmers are now unable to export products outside the region due to partial temporary occupation.

Producers of products note that they do not intend to sell cherries even cheaper, since they will not be able to cover production costs. Most of them are convinced that lowering the price will not necessarily lead to higher sales of sweet cherries.

Invaders rob Ukrainian farmers

Russian invaders create an artificial food crisis in the Zaporozhye region. Within a month, crops are taken away from Ukrainian gardeners, they do not give money for the products – they promise to pay them back later.

Ukrainians are not allowed to leave the temporarily occupied territories, even to sell goods. Cherries have to be sold locally.

The products taken from them are taken out and sold at a low price. Large manufacturers are offered cooperation, but no guarantees are given.

Segodnya wrote earlier that cabbages, radishes, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and other seasonal crops are taken from the farmers of the Kherson region and sold for a penny – UAH 3-10 per kilogram – in the Crimea. This is 3-7 times cheaper than the cost. At the same time, in the Zaporozhye region, farmers throw away tons of products that they cannot sell in other regions through the occupiers.
