(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 24 – “In May 2022, the economic growth of exports to non-EU countries continues, uninterrupted since the beginning of the year, driven in particular by the sales of instrumental and intermediate goods”, according to Istat, which records a growth in Italian exports of 4.7% compared to April and a slight decrease for imports (-0.8%).
On an annual basis, export growth marks a marked acceleration (+ 26.2%, it was + 11.9% in April) and one third depends on the increase in sales to the United States (+ 42.6%) . Imports recorded a more intense trend growth (+ 67.9%), also widespread in all groups and very high in terms of energy (+ 182%). On a monthly basis, on the other hand, compared to April, Istat recorded a first decline in Italian energy imports.
The surge in energy leads to a new increase in the value of Italian imports from Russia of 141.6% on an annual basis. On the contrary, Italian exports to the country fell by 9.5%.
In May, the trade deficit with non-EU countries is 637 million, compared to a surplus of 4.78 billion in the same month of 2021, and the energy deficit is -8.68 billion (a year earlier it was – 2.91 billion). The surplus in the trade of non-energy products, equal to 8.04 billion, “is high and increasing compared to May 2021” (7.69 billion), underlines the statistical institute. (HANDLE).
