At the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the labor market in Ukraine froze. Jobs were neither offered nor sought. However, after the first shock, the situation conditionally stabilized, and then the number of applicants increased sharply. The reason is that there have been many layoffs, wages are constantly decreasing, and there are few new vacancies.

Thus, in a year the number of job seekers increased by 4 times. Analysts of the recruitment portal grc.ua told about what is happening in the labor market “Today”.

There are far fewer vacancies than candidates

In June, the labor market is gradually recovering, but there are still 4.5 times fewer vacancies on the portal than it was before the full-scale war. Despite this situation, people are very active in responding to vacancies because they need a job.

“Applicants are very active. This is understandable: most Ukrainians have either lost their jobs or are not receiving full wages. There are much more people who want to find a job or a part-time job than there are vacancies. Almost 10% of new users of the grc.ua website are added weekly, session duration (ie. e. the applicant uses the site and searches for information about vacancies) 89% more than in the same period last year”, analysts say.

According to the site, over the past week people responded 12 thousand times to the proposals of employers. At the same time, activity usually drops in the summer, and people start looking for work in September, when the business season begins.

Statistics show that in June 12 people respond on average to 1 vacancy. In previous years, at this time, the competition was several times less.

“Candidates have changed their attitude to the job search process. Less and less job seekers just wait for the employer to pay attention to them and increasingly use all available channels to find a job,” the analysis says.

The greatest competition in the field of top management and among administrative staff. There 14 people apply for 1 vacancy on average. Also popular among candidates are vacancies for such workers:

  • administrative workers;
  • IT specialists;
  • students and professionals starting a career path;
  • sales managers;
  • drivers and logistics specialists.

How employers choose candidates now

Earlier, Segodnya was told that during the week a survey was conducted among companies about whether their criteria for selecting candidates had changed. And the results were as follows:

  • 62% of those surveyed still select candidates;
  • 22% became tougher due to too many reviews;
  • 12% became softer to help the maximum number of people with work;
  • 4% became softer because it is difficult to find new employees in the new location where the company has moved.

We also talked about the fact that due to martial law, many have changed their vacation plans. Read how many people plan to take time off from work this year and what is legal during martial law. “Today” also explained that the unemployed in Ukraine are waiting for cardinal changes.
