Unioncamere: since ’96 medium-sized enterprises better than GDP (+ 34%)

(ANSA) – ROME, June 27 – Since 1996, medium-sized Italian companies have performed better than GDP and create greater value, especially during crises. This is what emerges from the 21st Report of Unioncamere, Mediobanca Studies Area and Centro Studi Tagliacarne according to which our companies not only have better results than large ones, but they also have nothing to envy to their French or German counterparts, and it proves it the fact that in recent years 210 have passed into foreign hands.

According to a performance indicator, since 1996 Italian medium-sized enterprises have gained an advantage of 34.1% compared to GDP, most of which developed since 2009. In comparison with large manufacturing companies, in the same period, the medium-sized companies recorded better performances from many points of view: they obtained more than double growth in turnover (+ 108.8% against + 64.4%), centered a greater increase in productivity (+ 53% compared to + 38.6%) and a better remuneration for work is guaranteed (+ 62.4% for medium-sized companies, + 57% for large companies). These are successes obtained with a significant expansion of the employment base (+ 39.8% against -12.5%) which has made it an inclusive and participatory capitalist model.

Their productivity is also 21.5% higher than that of their German and French counterparts, a result out of the ordinary if we consider that our manufacturing as a whole is lagging behind by 17.9% compared to the same countries. It is no coincidence that they have attracted the attention of foreigners: today we would have about 210 more if they had not passed over the last decade under the control of foreign shareholders, a quarter of which are German and French.
