Inflation: Istat rose to 8% in June, a top for 36 years

“In June, inflation accelerates again, rising to a level (8%) that has not been recorded since January 1986, when it was equal to 8.2%”, Istat calculates in preliminary estimates. In May it was 6.8%. The consumer price index also recorded an increase on a monthly basis, of 1.2%.
“Inflationary tensions continue to spread from Energy Goods”, whose growth passes from + 42.6% in May to + 48.7% and in particular in non-regulated energy such as fuels (from + 32.9% to +39 , 9%). Regulated energy continues to record very high but stable growth at + 64.3%.

“The acceleration in the prices of food, processed and unprocessed, pushes the growth of those of the so-called shopping cart even higher” to + 8.3%, according to preliminary statistics. Also in this case it is the highest increase in January 1986, when it was + 8.6%. For the prices of food, household and personal care that make up the trolley, in May, the increase was 6.7%.
Consumer prices net of energy and fresh food which represent the core component mark + 3.8% (it was + 3.2% in May) and those net of energy goods alone + 4.2% (from + 3.6%). These increases have not been seen since August 1996 and June 1996 respectively. The inflation acquired for 2022 is equal to + 6.4% for the general index and + 2.9% for the core component.
