(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 01 – PZL-Świdnik has been awarded a contract in Poland with a gross value of 1.76 billion euros for 32 AW149 multi-role helicopters for the armed forces. The company, wholly owned by Leonardo, will act as prime contractor, building a production line for helicopters in Poland with deliveries in the period 2023-2029.

“The achievement of this contract provides further proof of our commitment to the constant development of helicopter capabilities and the local supply chain, with important returns for the helicopter industry in Poland, considered strategic”, comments the CEO of Leonardo Alessandro Scent.

PZL-Świdnik will build a local production line for the new helicopters. Leonardo – explains the company – will therefore make further investments in the Polish plant in addition to those totaling approximately one billion euros already made since 2010, which has significantly strengthened the competitiveness and industrial capabilities of PZL-Świdnik. This – as highlighted by Leonardo – provides an important contribution to the Polish aeronautical and defense industry, with the creation of local production, logistics base and complete technical support capabilities for the AW149s of the Polish Ministry of Defense, in line with the commitments of Leonardo and PZL-Świdnik aimed at ensuring industrial returns for Poland “.
