Recently, a Monobank client encountered an unpleasant situation when paying with a bank card in a supermarket.

He explained in a review on the website of the Ministry of Finance that in order to pay a check at ATB for 4,000 hryvnias with his own money, he had to go through a lengthy identity verification procedure.

“As it turned out, I need to go through video verification at the checkout and even have my passport with me at that moment. The queue can wait 10 minutes, or maybe longer, because there is not always a connection in stores”the client wrote.

Subsequently, he called the bank’s support service by phone, which insisted on limits of UAH 40,000 per month. The man is convinced that this is not indicated anywhere in the Monobank application.

What did the bank say?

The Monobank support service responded to the client’s feedback and noted that when opening a bank card in a remote mode, the conditions differ from those provided when opening a card in the presence of a bank employee.

In particular, when opening an account remotely, a general limit is set for debit transactions on all accounts in the amount of UAH 40,000 per month and UAH 400,000 per year.

In addition, the total balance on all accounts must be up to UAH 400,000. Such limits were set by the financial institution during martial law in Ukraine.

“If the expense transaction counter reaches more than 80%, we send a push message to the client”– said the representative of the bank.

To remove restrictions, you can conduct identification by video call or contact an employee at the point of issue.

Monobank returned a popular service

Monobank clients can make transfers in dollars and euros from card to card without converting to hryvnia, but this service is available only to close relatives. The transfer must be made in the currency of the card, otherwise the money will go to the recipient’s hryvnia account.

To make a currency transfer, you need to provide documents confirming the degree of kinship by sending their photo to the support service. You can transfer money to each other:

  • wives, husbands and children;
  • sisters, brothers and nephews;
  • grandparents and grandchildren;
  • aunts, uncles and cousins.

You can also send money in foreign currency in PrivatBank and Oschadbank. However, they have their own peculiarities: if in PrivatBank you need to contact the support service to clarify the details, for example, by writing in a chat in Privat24, then in Oschadbank you will have to go to a branch.

Such actions of banks are due to the ban on direct currency transfers in Ukraine for individuals. Transfers for close relatives are an exception in accordance with the NBU resolution of January 2, 2019. Consequently, all other individuals have the right to transfer money only in hryvnia.

Segodnya used to write about how scammers hide behind Nova Poshta and lure money from Ukrainians, and also talked about the limits set by large refueling stations for fuel supply.
