Versalis focuses on biofuels, bioplastics, recycling, hydrogen

Of Stefano:

(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 06 – Specialization, circularity, chemistry from renewable sources and efficiency are the four lines of Versalis’ industrial plan for the next four years.

The company announced this in a press release and presented the plan to the trade unions.

The strategy of Eni’s chemical company focuses on innovation through the development of proprietary technologies and agreements with partners. The specialization of the Versalis portfolio is driven, in particular, by the development of markets and products for the energy transition and sustainable mobility. As part of the circular economy, Versalis confirms the commitments for the mechanical and chemical recycling of plastic waste, and in the renewable chemistry, the continuous development of new markets and applications. Versalis, with 400 technologists and researchers, spent over 50 million euros in research and development in 2021 alone. Over the last four years, over 1.1 billion euros have been spent.

In the Brindisi and Priolo-Ragusa plants the goal is to integrate the cracking plants with the technology for the chemical recycling of plastic waste. A demo plant for recycling is planned in Mantua, as well as investments for the household appliances sector and for polymers from recycled raw materials. The development of new polyethylene and rubber grades is planned in Ferrara. In Ravenna, the focus is on materials for the tire and recycled sector and on the decarbonization project of the Ravenna and Ferrara districts with industrial partners in the area.

In Porto Marghera the site conversion plan is underway, with the construction of the first isopropyl alcohol plant in Italy, with an attached hydrogen production plant. Work has begun on the new pole for the advanced mechanical recycling of plastics. In Crescentino (Vercelli) the focus will be on bioethanol for biofuels, biomethane, bioplastics and bio chemicals. In Porto Torres the focus is on biocides and bioherbicides for agriculture, cosmetics and animal nutrition. (HANDLE).
