Open ground cucumbers are already on the shelves – how much do they cost

Due to the full-scale war with Russia in Ukraine, prices for various vegetables and fruits have increased significantly. At the same time, a deficit is not expected this year due to imports and own production from regions that do not suffer from the occupation of the Russian Federation.

In early July, the open ground cucumber season started. EastFruit analysts told about the prices for this product.

How much do cucumbers cost

Experts say that this year due to fighting the season for selling various vegetables, especially early ones, started much later than usual. One of the main reasons is the occupation of the Kherson region, the leader in the production of early products.

“So, today, open-ground cucumbers have begun to go on sale in large quantities in almost all regions of the country, and selling prices for these products are announced in the range of UAH 10-15/kg ($0.34-0.51/kg), which is an average 3.5 times more expensive than for the same period last year”, – the message says.

The leader in the cultivation of cucumber used to be the Zaporozhye region, which also fell under occupation. Now practically no vegetables are supplied from this region. It has become one of the reasons why Ukrainians pay much more for cucumbers this year.

Logistics problems were also an important factor for the price increase. In addition, the quality of vegetables is now negatively affected by the fact that the delivery time between regions has increased.

Will there be a shortage of fruits and vegetables in Ukraine due to the occupation

Earlier we said that in the context of a full-scale war between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, a shortage of vegetables and fruits is not expected.

In many western and central regions increased the area planted with vegetables. Also, some will have to be imported.

As for fruits and berries, we have always had their overproduction. Therefore, the deficit should not be expected. Problems can only arise with watermelons.
