(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 08 – Transport is recovering, but uncertainties about the future weigh between the collapse of family confidence and the repercussions of the war in Ukraine. This is the picture that emerges from the Transport Economic Observatory of the Confcommercio Research Office.

Compared to 2021, estimates show passenger traffic to grow (+ 7%), while freight traffic stabilizes (+ 1.5%), marking a full recovery of pre-crisis levels. Freight transport continues to grow for rail, albeit starting from low levels, with a modal share of about 5%, while as regards passengers, this segment is still far from full recovery, which is also happening in the air sector. .

The recovery in tourism is clearly visible on the sea front, with a 52.5% increase in passengers, slightly below pre-pandemic levels.

As regards the economic situation, the estimates of the Research Department see more shadows than lights, with a slowdown, starting from June and until the end of 2022, which is reflected above all in freight transport and, to a lesser extent, in passenger transport. The reduction in employment (-50 thousand in May), the collapse of household confidence, the international economic situation and the costs of energy are weighing heavily.

A 5% growth in the first half of the Italian GDP would correspond to a second part of the year with a tendential variation of around 1%, with negative consequences as well as the expectations of road hauliers. The many unknowns produce a feeling of worry.

In a scenario of recovery, but with a future that is difficult to delineate, the positive note is the growth, in all segments, of joint-stock companies, both as a percentage and at an absolute level. (HANDLE).
