An insurance policy, or auto-citizenship, must have every driver. This is a document that covers the costs of the victim in an accident. But there are cases when the culprit of the accident does not have a motor vehicle citizen, or it is overdue.

The project of the NBU Financial Literacy Ukraine explained who should pay the victim in this case.

The refund will

If the culprit of the accident does not have a motor vehicle, then the payment to the victim will be made by the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine (MTIBU). This bureau is a large association of insurers, and it provides compulsory civil liability insurance for land vehicle owners for damage caused to third parties.

So, what to do to get a refund in this case? If an accident occurs, the following steps must be taken:

  • call the police and an ambulance if there are victims, and perform other duties specified in the traffic rules;
  • fix the place of the accident: take pictures of the damage, the placement of cars and other circumstances;
  • immediately, but no later than three working days from the date of the accident, apply to the MTIBU in writing with a notification of the accident.

The bureau’s website has an example of a statement that you need to write to report an incident.

Important after reporting an accident store damaged property in the condition in which it was after the incident. And so it should be until a representative appointed by MTIBU examines it. Eventually the bureau will make the payment, but then the culprit will have to give this money.

“It is also important that the victim has a valid auto insurance policy. After the MTIBU pays compensation to the victim, the MTIBU will demand compensation from the culprit of the accident,” the controller explained.

Insurance premiums have increased

Segodnya previously wrote that since July 1, prices for auto citizenship have increased by 5–15%. This is due to the fact that Insurance premiums also increased. Now the payouts will be as follows:
