(ANSA) – MILAN, 25 JUL – Snam and Edison have signed an agreement for the joint development of ‘Small-Scale Lng’ projects, small-scale LNG (liquefied natural gas) plants in Italy. The objective – the parties explain is “to leverage the infrastructures and skills of the two companies to contribute to the decarbonisation of transport and off-grid” civil users (not on the network, ed).

According to Snam and Edison, LNG is “the most effective and concrete energy vector for decarbonising large-scale transport, reducing its environmental impact through the replacement of diesel fuel. Already today the LNG market in heavy transport in Italy has about 4 thousand trucks. about 130 refueling stations and annual consumption of about 200 thousand tons “. Thanks to the development of mini-infrastructures and the penetration of LNG in the marine bunkering sector (naval refueling, ed.), The market is expected to grow over 100% by 2025, with a potential of up to 1.5 million tons of consumption. annually to 2030.

With the growth of the market and of uses, the number of refueling stations is expected to grow up to around 300 units when fully operational. A “progressive penetration of Bio-Bnl is also foreseen, providing a further contribution to the decarbonization plan announced in the Fit for 55 package of the European Union”.

“Our goal – explains Snam CEO Stefano Venier – is to extend the infrastructure necessary to accelerate the replacement of vehicles with higher emissions, in particular in heavy and maritime transport, and to enable greater use of biomethane, in line with the European targets of the RePowerEu plan and with our mission to support the decarbonisation process “. “Through this agreement – echoes Edison CEO Nicola Monti – we have the opportunity to further accelerate the development of the ‘SsLng’ market (small-scale LNG plants, ed) and the penetration of Bio-LNG in Italy, maximizing the synergies with Edison’s assets, projects and skills across the entire supply chain “.
