(ANSA) – TURIN, 03 AUG – The Iren group, through the subsidiary Iren Ambiente, will build the first plant in Italy for the extraction of precious metals from WEEE, the waste of electrical and electronic equipment. The project stems from the agreement with Osai, a company active in the design and production of machines and complete lines for automation and testing on semiconductors, and Btt Italia: the operation will result in the construction of a plant, the first to be built in the area. national, for the extraction, selection and recovery of precious metals present in WEEE electronic cards, including gold, silver, palladium and copper. The plant will carry out two work phases: the first dedicated to the disassembly of the boards, the second to the separation and refining of precious metals through a hydrometallurgical process. Both phases are characterized by high levels of efficiency and low environmental impacts: the technology applied is developed by Osai within the urban mining project ‘Re4M’ and in fact allows, in combination with the technologies of its partner Btt Italia, a significant reduction in CO2 production compared to traditional mining activities.
The plant, which will be operational from the second half of 2023, will be built within the pole dedicated to the circular economy that Iren is developing in Tuscany, in the municipality of Terranuova Bracciolini (Arezzo). The geographical location of the plant will facilitate possible industrial synergies with the Arezzo goldsmith district. (HANDLE).
