Oil, + 79% cost of Italian imports in the first half of 2022

(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 04 – In the first six months of 2022, the cost that Italy incurred to source crude oil from abroad increased by 79.3% compared to the same period in 2021.

This increase does not tend to slow down and was further weighed down by the weakening of the Euro against the US Dollar. Unem (Union of energy for mobility), a trade association of Italian fuel companies, writes in a press release.

In the first six months of 2022, Italy imported 30 million tons of oil, an increase of 13% compared to the same period of 2021. The first supplier country was Russia, due to the particular situation of the Priolo Gargallo Isab refinery. , in Syracuse (owned by Litasco-Lukoil), which has been importing only Russian oil for months, currently having no other supply possibilities. Net of this, Russia’s weight would be limited to a few percentage points.

In the first half of the year, 23 countries have already supplied Italy with crude oil.

In June 2022, oil consumption grew by 3.1% compared to the same month of 2021, with a recovery in particular for jetfuel, which however has not yet reached pre-covid volumes. Overall volumes in line (+ 0.3%) even if compared with June 2019 (pre-pandemic period).

In June 2022, sales of fuel (petrol + diesel + LPG) grew by 0.5% compared to the same month in 2021. The comparison is positive even if compared with June 2019 (pre-pandemic period) with a variation of + 4%.
