Sales: Federmoda, tourism saves revenues, fears for September

(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 18 – “In August the trend of the balances is stable over 2021, thanks also to tourism, which has been incisive compared to previous years”. To take stock of the sales on sale is the president of the Italy-Confcommercio Fashion Federation, Giulio Felloni. “This is a small recovery compared to the -10% national average recorded at the end of July, after the first month of sales”, continues Felloni, underlining however the concerns for the month of September, when the tourist flow should slow down. “For this reason – he says – we should extend the tourist season, making sure that it is not limited only to the month of August”.

As for inflation, the president of Federmoda explains how “the clothing sector”, unlike others, still has to “pay for a race to the rise in prices”. “In the shops of the sector there has been no increase in prices and with the sales the consumer can buy at very low prices, it will be very difficult in the future to do so under these conditions. The biggest concern is to wake up one day with costs that are not accepted. from the consumer, because they are too high “.

For this, explains Felloni, interventions by the government are needed to support the sector: “Acting on energy-consuming costs on bills; intervening on the tax wedge to give more money to workers, and therefore to consumers; to operate a small revolution in the sector. VAT to contain consumer prices “. “We should also intervene – he concludes – on rents, as was done during the Covid period with the tax credit”. (HANDLE).
