The participation of the national company “Naftogaz” in the certification of the Russian gas pipeline “Nord Stream-2” will help Ukraine to protect its interests in the European market.
This was stated by the adviser to the chairman of the head of Naftogaz Ukrainy Miron Vasilik on the air of the Dom TV channel.
“We, Naftogaz and Ukraine, as major players on the European market, buy significant volumes of gas. Therefore, we are also interested in the competitiveness of this market, and we have the right to defend our positions and interests in this market. 66 of the German law on the energy industry “, – said Vasilik.
According to him, the process will last four months and it began with an application for certification of the gas pipeline, which was received on September 8.
“The certification will last four months. The German regulator is considering the application and looking at the role of all participants in this market, including Ukrainian participants, Polish participants, and other countries,” said the adviser to the head of the Naftogaz board.
Vasilik notes that this is a rather long process that takes into account not only technical, but also political aspects. It is also attended by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and the European Commission.
Also, the representative of “Naftogaz” believes that the agreements between the United States and Germany will not affect the certification process.
“I do not think that political agreements between the United States and Germany will somehow influence this process. This process is conditioned by European legislation, the third package of energy legislation, and all certification processes should proceed in accordance with this,” the expert added.
Naftogaz submitted an application for participation in the certification process for Nord Stream 2 on Monday, October 18, said Yuriy Vitrenko, head of the board.
The next day, Vitrenko announced that he plans to increase the volume of oil production within the country, since Ukraine has great potential in this.
