While small and medium-sized businesses are bearing the brunt of the energy crisis, with skyrocketing bills, President Emmanuel Macron is asking them to wait before paying contracts at “crazy prices”. A double negotiation, at national and European level, will be held in the coming days.
To respond to the energy crisis, Emmanuel Macron appealed to SMEs asking them not to sign energy contracts at “crazy prices”. The Head of State hears the distress of companies and promises negotiations, particularly at European level, for more reasonable prices. A negotiation at two levels, therefore.
Upcoming negotiations in France and Europe
At European level, energy ministers will meet on September 30 to try to agree on exceptional aid measures in the face of the energy crisis. This could allow the government to free up funds for businesses.
At the national level, from October 1, companies whose energy bill represents at least 3% of their turnover and which record losses due to the crisis, will be able to receive aid of up to 2 million euros from the first month of loss. This aid will even be retroactive. At the moment, all companies with fewer than ten employees and a turnover of less than 2 million euros are eligible for the tariff shield and can apply for a state-guaranteed loan until the end of the year. if their treasury has been weakened by the war in Ukraine.
