Airbus announced on Wednesday that it had reached an “amicable” agreement with Qatar Airways to put an end to the dispute between them, concerning damage to the fuselage surface of part of the fleet of Gulf Company A350. Qatar Airways was suing the aircraft manufacturer in British courts after grounding part of its A350 fleet.

Airbus and Qatar Airways have reached an “amicable and mutually acceptable” agreement ending the dispute between them over damage to the fuselage surface of part of the Gulf company’s A350 fleet , the aircraft manufacturer announced on Wednesday. “The details of the agreement are confidential and the parties will now end their legal actions,” Airbus said in a statement.

Qatar Airways was suing the aircraft manufacturer in the UK courts after grounding part of its A350 fleet because, according to it, these damages called into question flight safety, which Airbus disputed. “A repair project is now underway and both parties look forward to getting these aircraft back into the air safely,” Airbus said.

Qatar Airways claimed a total of 2.5 billion dollars

Qatar Airways had begun banning several of its long-haul aircraft from August 2021. Currently, 29 of its 53 A350s are grounded and the airline is seeking $200,000 in compensation per plane per day capital expenditures, totaling approximately $2.5 billion.

The aircraft manufacturer recognized a degradation of the paint which could expose a metal net integrated into the fuselage made of composite materials, intended to protect the aircraft in the event of a lightning strike, but rejected any consequence on safety, as did the European Agency for aviation safety (EASA). According to Airbus, “the settlement agreement does not constitute an admission of liability for either party.”
