Dangerous seafood was imported to Ukraine, the goods were found in the Odessa region. The product has exceeded the permissible level of cadmium.
The product was made in China and delivered to Ukraine from Lithuania. This was reported in the Main Directorate of the State Food and Consumer Service in the Odessa region on March 6.
Cadmium is a heavy metal whose vapor and compounds are toxic to the human body. It can cause damage to the lungs, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, and bones.
“The Headquarters received a letter from the European Food and Feed Rapid Alert System RASFF dated February 18, 2023 No. 2023.1192 regarding the detection of an excess of the permissible level of cadmium in a frozen seafood mix (manufacturer: Zejiang Zhoufu food Co. LTD, China) from Republic of Lithuania (sender: UAB “Plunges kooperatine prekyba”, Lithuania) to Ukraine (recipient: LLC “VICHUNAY-UKRAINE”, 3 Solomenskaya str., office 6, Kyiv, 03110),” the message says.
