The development of carbon-free generation will help Ukraine export “green” electricity to the EU – Ministry of Energy

The Government of Canada and Canadian energy companies intend to actively participate in the restoration and restoration of the Ukrainian energy sector in the context of the development of carbon-free energy, which will allow Ukraine to export clean electricity to Europe.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine following the meeting of Deputy Ministers of Energy Yaroslav Demchenkov and Farid Safarov with Deputy Minister of Strategic Policy and Innovation, responsible for Energy and Natural Resources of Canada, Frank De Rozier.

“Ukraine has great potential to become an energy hub in Europe, accelerating the green transition of the entire continent. The development of carbon-free generation will help us export clean electricity to Europe. We are interested in the participation of the Canadian side in projects that will help us accelerate the corresponding transformation,” he said.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the recovery will be carried out in three key areas: the development of nuclear generation, renewable energy sources and the decentralization of the energy system.

Recall, Vladimir Zelensky said that Ukraine aims to become a leader in the transformation of the energy industry to counter any threats, so the country will build modern green energy. Also, the state should become a green energy hub for the export of green electricity and hydrogen to the EU.

Earlier, the head of the Fuel and Energy Committee in Parliament, Andriy Gerus, said that an increase in electricity production at green power plants in the coming months could allow partially – during the day – to export electricity from Ukraine to the EU.

According to Guaranteed Buyer State Enterprise, the level of underpayment to green energy enterprises for 2022 is about 50%.
